Ragashanti kicked off radio; 18 strikes against Nationwide

Controversial radio talk show host Dr Kingsley ‘Ragashanti’ Stewart has been ordered off the airwaves by the Broadcasting Commission of Jamaica (BCJ).

The BCJ on Monday ordered Nationwide News Network (NNN) to immediately discontinue transmission of the radio programme 'Ragashanti Live' in its current daytime slot.

The order takes effect on Tuesday, March 15.

The popular daytime talk show is broadcast on weekdays between 1:00 and 5:00 pm.

The Commission has cited a number of instances where the host has engaged in and encouraged callers to voice scandals, derogatory and insulting remarks, which should not be transmitted.

The station has also been required to take the necessary steps to bring its programming in line with its public service broadcasting license and the applicable broadcasting regulations.

NNN has been cited by the Commission for at least 18 serious breaches of its licence and the broadcasting regulations in the last two months.

In my opinion the Broadcasting Commission of Jamaica's decision is both personal and political. If I were the Nationwide News Network I would issue legal proceedings against the Broadcasting Commission of Jamaica in the Jamaican courts!

Ragashanti should also consider setting up an Internet radio station as I believe he would attract a worldwide audience as well as a lot of worldwide advertisers and sponsorship.
